Ford 4.9L 300ci Straight-Six

I recently bought a 95 F-150 with the 4.9L EFI engine. I love the engine but i want more grunt from it. Can anyone tell me anything about beefing it up for a relatively small price tag. I've heard of putting 5.0L fuel injectors works well, but what else should be done with it to make it work correctly?

Thanks for any posts!

Hey WCChopper-

I went to WCC before in Ann Arbor. Used to live in michigan.

I'm sure the 4.9 responds to upgrades like any other internal combustion engine. By grunt, do you mean towing capability/torque? I think that might be a reasonable goal. If you're talking about high-end power that's probably limited by your head/valving which is probably a tall order.

Injectors alone are not likely to help, and I think they are costly. A 5.0 injector is actually responsible for injecting less fuel per revolution than a 4.9 injector. First thing for a low-budget upgrade would actually be gearing. Is this a 2wd truck? You may be able to swap a rear end from another truck in there for less than 200 bucks and feel a significant increase in pull. Much more than if you did a cam/exhaust upgrade.

Good luck

K

www.fordsix.com start there, those guys know there stuff when it comes to Ford 6's, not to mention the guy that runs the forum, also runs Classic Inlines, the best place for Ford 6 parts. but TURBOCHARGER and larger injectors come to mind. stock EEC-IV can be tuned with piggy back controller, to handle the engine change.

voeter

If your still looking, 5.0 injectors and 5.0 throttle body will do wonders. Also open up the exhaust to a 3'' from the engine through the cat and out the back.
