Ford 4 speed identification
I used to own an 1980's Bronco 6 cyl that had a 4 speed with the 4th gear that seemed to be more like a freeway overdrive gear. A buddy of mine had the same trans in his late 80's early 90's f 100 6 cyl.
Can anyone tell me what transmission this was and which years I might be able to find one in at a wrecking yard? Next up, will this trans bolt up to a Ford Y engine bell housing? If yes, what else might I need to do to make it work in my 1960 F 100? Thanks to all, 29guy |

I don't think any modern transmission will bolt to a Y-block. Not directly anyway. Mummerts has adapters for the C4 and the T5, but they cost.
http://ford-y-block.com/ Go there and scroll down. They have about everything for the Y-blocks. My 56 has the original 3 speed. Non-syncro 1st and all. It has a 1:1 final ratio. My dana (timken) 44 rear axle has a 3.73 gear. I will eventually swap to a 9" (which you should alread have) and go with a higher gear ratio (numerically lower) for the highways. The one I am getting currently has a 3.50 set, but they are not too hard to swap if needed. |
