Ford 400 Budget Improvements

OK, so i have a 351modified 400 in my 79 f150 4x4. I have read many different articles on this forum and lots of other sites. I am wanting to improve the performance and efficiency/MPGs of my 400. The history on my engine is that it has a Edelbrock performer 750 cfm carb, Edelbrock Performer 400 dual plane intake, everything in the block is stock to the best of my knowledge, and the heads were rebuilt, resurfaced and given all new valves, guides and everything else.

Now I know that it was a smog engine and for the most part low performance, but I have done a lot of reading that there are undoubtedly relatively cheap and low cost ways to improve it.

So some of the questions I have is if my heads are the stock 351m 400 heads rebuilt and resurfaced, would there be any gains in, putting a set of 351c 2v open heads, worth paying (i believe is a reasonable price, tell me if im wrong) 350-400 dollars for a low miles used pair? What would my compression ratio be, what CR should i be looking for?

What kind of camshaft and timing gear set up would most benefit this engine for the street, not having to replace expensive parts like rockers and such?

Also important to know im no mr big timer, im just a senior high school student (no job) and this is my daily driving vehicle, i need to drive it to school everyday so it cant be down in a shop for a week. Im looking to make some worth wile changes for efficiency and for fun. I also have to be able to afford to buy gas to put in it afterwords. So what are my best options?

(Thanks a lot in advance!)

Rv cam and aftermarket timing set
And remove that egr and smog crap. Hedder help to. I've had 351c 2v and 400 heads side by side and visually there no different other than a few more casting scars in the ports of the 400 die grinder will fix that.

M and Cleveland 2V heads are the same. No gain there, you want a gain you need Australian 2V, or the 4V closed chamber.
