I'm almost completely finished with a rebuild of a 1971 Ford 400 out of a Galaxie. The block had a hose outlet to the left of the thermostat housing, but instead of threads it was a press fit or interference fit. The outlet was rusted through and has to be replaced. I took it out and verified that it is a press fit. I'm a Chevy nut and have never seen a press fit hose outlet. Are these available and where could I look? Thanks everyone.

You can purchase threaded pipe nipples to replace these at any hardware store, drill and tap the housing and your good to go. The fitting is not available to restore the original housing so unless you find another in the junkyard this is the best way to repair the housing.

4 Jaw, Are you talking about tapping the block? This is where the outlet comes from, not the thermostat housing which would be easy to tap, it's aluminum alloy. I believe this would take a 3/4" tap or better. Is this suitable on the block itself? Thanks.

Yes, tap the block. Cast iron is easy to tap with a good sharp tap. Plumbing departments usually have the fittings.

The heater hose outlet tubes are still available under Basic Part No. 8555.
