No problem, just didn't want anyone to spend too much time looking for those hard to find D0HE heads

re: Ford 400M questions answered
I was told by someone recently that the D1AE-GA heads as listed by NHRA don't exist. The only true K heads are the D0AE heads. What do think of this information.
BTW a lot of the NHRA information is wrong. |

re: Ford 400M questions answered
I am trying to dress up my 400. I would like to go with a Serpentine Belt System. I have a S. pulley for my Powermaster 100A alternator. I can get brackets modified or fabricated. I should be able to get a S. pulley for my Sanden AC compressor. I can probably swap out the PS pump with one with a S. pulley. I need a crank pulley for a Serpentine system and an idler for tension. I have sent an email to March, but no replies yet.
Does anyone know of a serpentine system for a 351M/400? How about crank pulleys, does a 429/460 pulley fit a 400? Could a Windsor or other pulley be modified to fit? |

re: Ford 400M questions answered
Don't know about the NHRA stuff, but I personally had the D1AE (don't remember the suffix) heads and ran them for several years back in the late '70's. So I guess I'd have to say they do exist. I may still have them, but until I finish moving all my stored heads/blocks into the new shop I won't know for sure. Still do have a set of D0AE heads (I just came across them in the last load), and a set of big valve open chambers too.

re: Ford 400M questions answered
I am running the 351CJ heads(D1ZE-DA AND -GA) on my 400. These are the open chamber heads. With flattop pistons and a thin head gasket, I get about 10:1 CR. I think that the closed chamber heads would give me more than 11:1 CR and would be too much for pump gas. If I ever decide to change heads, I would go to something like the Austrailian Aluminum heads. The CR would not be as high and aluminum resists detonation.
As for this moment, I am satisfied with the performance. I need to concentrate on cosmetics. I am looking for a serpentine belt system to start with. |

re: Ford 400M questions answered
Answer to the the 351m/400 engines. In my research i came across this from-History of the Ford 351M- Taken off ProjectBronco.com. website. Quote The 351m and 400 cubic inch v8 engines are members of the CLEVELAND, or 355 series family of Ford engines. The 400m was first introduced in the 1971 Full-size model cars and station wagons. It was developed as an economical, reduced emissions replacement for the larger, gas guzzling 429/460 and the aging 360/390/428 V8 engines. The 351M was developed in 1975 to replace the 351C for use in large passenger cars. The 351M/400 were used in light duty trucks starting in the 1977 model year. FORD developed the 400 engine in response to new government regulations on pollutions for 1971 model year.To see the rest of this story check out The BRONCO HISTORY on the website 2000-2002 ProjectBronco.COM.Maybe this will stop all the B.S. being spread about this engineThis info is from FORDMOCO.

re: Ford 400M questions answered
I have the result from the Dyno2000 simulation of my 400C. All the specs are good, but I am using Cylinder Head Airflow Data that I think is close to 351C-4V heads that I have. I know that it is close to the 3V Aluminum Aussie heads.

re: Ford 400M questions answered
Another really good book is by Tom Monroe / HP Books. " How to rebuild your FORD V8 351C-351M-400-429-460 " It has an excellent section on Parts Identification and Interchange. I also have Pat Ganahl's book and it's excellent too. I have a 351M in my 53 Ford sedan and these two books were money well spent.
