Post Ford 7.5 vs 8.8 rearend ID

Can anyone out there help me decode a '78 Ford rearend tag? I need to know if this is a 7.5 or 8.8 rear. It came from a 302 Mercury Monarch. I believe it is an open carrier w/2.47 gears. The tag reads:

WER-AC 7HE
2 4 7 8 7 5 7 6 A

If this means anything to you, please translate for me. Thanks.

Thanks, I thought that was how the bottom line read, but I had never heard of an 8.7" axle. It looked too big to be a 7.5, but I didn't think Ford used the 8.8 in passenger cars until the 80's. Do the parts all interchange with the 8.8?

It appears that many parts do not interchange. It is the same basic design but was upgraded when the FOX bodies began coming through.

I believe I was thinking of the '79 FORD 8.5" when I typed same thing. Sorry about the mistake.
