Ford 8.8 Explorer rearend spring perches?

I am curious what everyone is using for spring perches when using the 8.8 Explorer rearend. Does Ford offer them loose by themselves? The axle tubes for these rearends is 3-1/4" diameter. I have an Explorer rearend that I have cut off the factory spring perches, but wasn't able to salvage them. It seems like the most common spring perches available is 3", and didn't know if everyone is just using those and grinding them slightly to make them fit, or if someone makes them for the 3-1/4" axle diameters. I am replacing a Nova 10 bolt rearend, and have it mounted on the top of the leaf springs. I used a set of aftermarket perches for it that fit fine. Do the 3" ones fit ok without any mods? Someone told me they fit fine and by the time I weld them, the slight difference in diameter actually leaves a small gap for good weld penetration. I have tried to research this on the forum and internet, but didn't find any definite answers. I have the Ford rearend, but haven't obtained any spring perches yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have made some using tubing.. When I set the ride height, I use a 3x2 tubing, notching the top, and cutting the front and back on a angle then cap them off..And drill the centering hole.. I do this when I set one up low..This end's up being the perch and the lowering block all in one..

Great idea! I need to lower my rearend about an inch anyway. Thanks for the input.

perch and block in one

You can do something like NEW INTERIORS did once you know the length. Another way is to get a 2x5 or 2x6 cut off the usual length of a lowering block 5 or 6 inches, then measure dead center of the piece, drill a pilot hole through both sides, get a 3 1/4 hole saw and cut your circle. When your finished cut it in half, now you have two identical ones. You can box the ends to make it stronger. Don't forget to drill the hole for the locator pin on the spring. In some cases the rear axle needs to be re-centered anyway, so you can control where it goes too.

I used 2 x 4 tubing for the perches I made. Scribed it all out for the centers and drilled my pilot holes, than used a 3 1/4" hole saw (took forever) thru the 1/4 steel on my drill press. Than cut the thing in half.

Another reason I made my own was my springs were too narrow for the factory 8.8 perches or ones available that were 3" tube. I needed the narrower perch for the bolt pattern to fit in between my lower spring plates which have the lower shock mount. As long as the centering pin isn't more than 1/2" tall the 2 x 4" will work . If you need a pair made pm me.
