Ford 8.8 , Lucas Syn. need Ford additive?

Hi , Does the Ford Additive work in a Ford rear the same as GM's, that is, to stop chattering around corners? My son put an 8.8 posi in an American (Rambler). It has a 350 Chev, 400, 3.73 gears. It ran 13.94 at the track on its 2nd day and won Street. When he was doing his burn out I noticed the driver's side stopped spinning. I figure it needs a shim/clutch kit. We didn't add any Ford Additive to the 8.8, I have syn. lube in a GM 10 bolt with no additive and it seems to work good. Should we try the additive or go straight to the kit? Thanks.

re: Ford 8.8 , Lucas Syn. need Ford additive?

Hi, hate to disappoint you but I can't help with the question. However, I'm picking up a '68 Rambler American and looking at a very similar engine swap.
If you have the time, can you or your son let me know what you encountered with a small block chevy swap into your car?
Any advice is appreciated.

Tips Chev in a 69 American

We installed the 350 with a 350 trans not a 400. The Dist with an Accel Coil is 1 1/4 " away from the firewall,(measured at the top of coil). I don't remember how long a tailshaft we have, but a driveshaft from a full size '86 Pont. fit the Ford explorer 8.8 rear ,(3.73 gears) with no mods. We got the rear and an extra short side axle, had it narrowed on one side to take both shorts. The rear ended up 1/2" narrower than the original AMC rear. Up front we used a '86 Caprice rad and trimmed the sheet metal to fit. Exhaust manifolds are rear dumps. The 2nd day at the track my son won street and ran 13.90's shifting at 5000 rpm.
We still are looking for another set up to get rid of the vacuum wipers. Hope this helps.

Check the synthetic lube that you used to see if the additive is already in it. I have Royal Purple in mine and it says you do not need to add the additive. As far as I am aware, the Ford additive works the same as GM's, but I would be worried about comptability with the synthetic gear oil.

I don't think that an adative is going to help with your problems.

1) The diff might just be warn out.

2) Your tires don't have equal load under power. This is because of a reaction to driveshaft torque trying to lift the right rear tire (making it easier to spin then the left). There are a few ways to get the tires to have closer to equal loads.
A) Stiffer rear suspension (springs and/or sway-bars)
B) Softer front suspension (remove the front sway-bar)
C) Some people add a small air spring to the passenger side of the rear suspension. You can play with pressure till it will launch right.

The rear seems to work after adding the Ford Additive, equal smoke and spinning on burnouts. It worked , I wouldn't of bet on it. Thanks for all replies.
