Post Ford 8" / 9" Questions

i have a ford 8" rear end that im planning on putting in my Duster. most think the rear wont be strong enough for what i want to do. theres a 65 or 66 mustang at the junkyard with just the 9" hosuing left. im sure i can get a centersection with a decent ratio from a van or truck, i saw alot there.

will the 28 spline 8" axles work in the 9" as long as i get a 28 spline centersection?

will the backing plates bolt up?

Or will a 8" with 4.10 gears hold up to a mild 360/727 and a manual valve body? i wont ever run slicks on it. what will be the first to breaks? my gess is the spider gears.

yes the same axles and backing plates will work as long as the length is the same.

Hmmm, 4.10s, no slicks, mild 360, fmvb...

Well i want to say that it'll hold up but depending on your meaning of "mild" it might not. I'd say if it has over 350ft-lbs then probably not.

Make sure that thats a 9inch in that mustang. To find a 65-66 mustang with a 9 is pretty rare. They only put them in hipo 289s and sheblbys. It its not, check out early broncos. They all came with 9 inch rears, its a bit narrower but that'll allow you to run wider tires. The closest thing to a direct fit in my book.
