Ford 8" Rear
I have a 66 mustang with a 302 that i plan on building to make a little over 400hp. Its street driven but Im planning on taking it to the strip once in a while. I still have the stock 8 inch rear with 3.00:1 gears. Does anybody know if my 8 incher is strong enough to put up with it. If not what should I do? I dont have $2000 to buy a currie 9 inch or anything. Keep in mind the 66 mustangs only weigh 2800lbs. How stong is an 8 inch rear anyway? Thanks for any help.

The 8" will hold-up in a vehicle that is raced that has 250 hp. Anything above that go to the 9".
start searching the salvage yards. The 9" out of the Granada is 52" bp to bp.......Don
Keep and eye out for a 9inch rear for your car.(so its a bolt in) They made them in those years and we pay about 100-400 bucks for them around here.Dont throw the 8 inch away either cause we us them in rods all the time up in the 300hp #S NEVER NEVER measure a rear end from the backing plate to backing plate,it is a worthless measurement. You need to measure the rear from the axle flange to axle flange.E-mail me and i will give you a list of ones that fit you car.I think i used a disc brake linclon one in the last mustang and it might have been about 58 inches flange to flange, but i could check. Somebody else must have done one lately ??
