Are you talking about the axle bearings?

The tapered bearings are much stronger than the sealed balls, and withstand side loads from ripping donuts and hard cornering much much better than balls.
The tapered bearing has an external seal that can only be replaced by removing the bearing from the axle because the tapered bearing is constantly lubed by the differential oil.

If it sounds like I am a fan of the tapered bearings, I am.

I don't know if they directly interchange or not. You might have to get new ones and measure. Also remember the ball bearing has to have a seal on the INSIDE to keep the diff. lube out of it. Does your housing end accept an inner seal?

I'll bet "Deuce" knows for sure.
