9 inch is the diameter of the ring gear and has nothing to do with the housing size. That looks like a 9 inch housing to me. That is the one with the long tapered center, which is the stronger one. It also looks like it may have the smaller 28 spline axles.

Thanks just got worried I bought the smaller 8"
It has 28 spline axles small ford bearings and tapered axle tubes 3.5" and taper to 3"
And was outof a coil spring setup

Does it have the axle tubes that are flat on top? If it does then it's from a big car, probably a Lincoln or Mercury.

I've never seen one of those housings with the small axle bearings.

Yes tubes are flat on top smooth back housing with dimples

Cost us a fortune to do cars up in Australia I paid $400 for this housing now need to spend over 3grand on it
To get large bearings ends wilwood brakes and 35 spline axles and centre. .
Because we have to buy everything from usa.

Yea, that would suck. I bought complete 9 inch rear ends around here for years for $25 to $50 each. The last few that I bought were $100.
