Ford 9" Questions

I've got a complete Ford 9" rear end that I planned on using on my 1930 Model A Sedan. Now I'm concerned that the rear end will be too wide and the wheels will be sticking out.

SoCal's website states that a flange to flange width of 52" is ideal for a Model A. I've got a 60.5" housing (housing flange to flange)! Am I paranoid or will this look like hell? It's not mounted to the vehicle yet, so I have no frame of reference other than laying it under the frame and body.

Thoughts?

Nick

Ford 9" Questions

That works out to 4 inches wider on each side. Some of that could be compensated by wheel offset. Looks like it will be fendered? Wider rear fenders will camouflage that as well.

Open wheel. I will have to check the offset on the wheels I plan on using. Hopefully they will make up for some of the gap.

9" Ford rear end to wide

I had the same problem [9" in a '36 Hupmobile]. Here in California there are several businesses that narrow rear end housings. Curries comes to mind. Cost me around $350 to narrow the housing, buy one new axle, and respline one old axle. Ed Farrell

How much power is the motor gonna put out? If it's a driver an S10 rear will fit perfectly. Trade the 9 inch (or sell it) and get yourself a housing out of a late model Blazer if you want discs.
