ford 9" questions...problems

I just got my truck running and the rear end, ford 9" is leaking oil. I looked and it's coming from the pinion seal. So I take the pinion support out and get to looking for the reason.

It appears the yoke 1350, isn't engaging the seal all the way. It bottoms on the little ring in front of the bearing that is closest to the yoke. I'm wondering if the ring is suppose to be under the pinion nut instead of under the yoke?

BY ring do you mean washer of about .030 inch thickness? There is no ring or washer under the pinion nut. There is a crush sleeve which is about .450 inch thick but it should be between the two pinion bearings.

Sounds like someone placed the washer behind the yoke instead of behind the yoke nut.

This ring is about 3/16" thick. Here are some pictures;

That looks like half of a solid pinion bearings spacer for an F9. It should be between the two pinion bearings in a normal installation,or you may not need it at all if a collapsible spacer was used. Also, if your yoke is for a big bearing ( rear bearing 89443)pinion support, then the yoke has a .150 shorter spline length and a spacer may be used to keep the nut from running out of threads on the pinion.
