Ford AOD id numbers help

I have a Ford AOD trans with a 351-W engine. On the side of the trans are the numbers RF-{90P 7006 AA On top of the bell housing are the numbers ( very large numbers ) C 85
Can anyone tell what year this trans is or what it came out of??

Thanks

re: Ford AOD id numbers help

The first number is a casting number and the character { doesn't seem right;

If it was RF-D9OP-7006-AA, that would likely be consistent with the original 1979 casting (which may have been in use for several years.....)

The C 85 was probably a mold and shift number, it doesn't ring a bell....

At one time many moons ago I worked with Ford tranny engineering......

At one time the trannys had a small tag with the code on them, would have probably been 5 or 7 characters, but I don't know if anyone would remember the specific codes after all these years, unless they kept some of the old info.

I wouldn't think about it too much though, they didn't change that transmission a lot, mostly minor calibrations.

re: Ford AOD id numbers help

The AOD went through some revisions over the years to beef them up a bit. The newer models had "A" servos and 1 1/2" or 2" OD bands. The older models had B or C servos and 1" OD bands.
