ford aod noise

Am getting chattering noise from tranny. As I accellerate in 3rd or od position noise comes and goes. If I mash the pedal It shifts fine through all gears This car ran good last year except for an occaisional sqwak or chatter at highway speeds which would disappear if i downshifted & then upshifted. This is a 49ford tudor w/351-W engine . I have a tv pressure guage mounted under hood & set tv to 35psi @idle, in neutral. I used a Total pERFORMANCE cable & made a throttle plate extension per their specs for my holley 600 carb. I hooked up a temporary 0-400 psi guage to the line port & got following results; idle in rev=90psi line, 0 psi tv,all other ranges==60 psi. W.O.T. reverse=300psi ,85psi tv;W.O.T. all other ranges =210psi, line.85psi tv. I then dropped pan to inspect for loose bolts, filter etc, but found nothing . Pan bottom was clean, filter was new last year. Tranny has less than 2000 miles. I have correct flex plate & 2000 stall conv. I even pulled taishaft housing to check gov. & tailshaft bushing. All o.k. Drive shaft & u-joints new last year. Any ideas?

If it could be described as a buzzing noise, it might
be the tv valve spring.

The better spring is pink, and will usually stop the
buzzing noise. I guess the non-pink (earlier model?)
spring is too soft to hold the valve steady?

chatter noise? does the vehicle chatter/shake/vibrate some what also?

Does the converter of this AOD have a OE style internal drive hub for 3rd gear or an aftermarket style that does not direct drive the trans in 3rd gear? the smallest input shaft dives the 3rd gear clutch drum

3rd gear is a problem in these trans. you can have a good pressure reading and still have a problem in the 3rd gear drum , sealing rings , clutch pack setup that will allow the clutch pack to slip slightly .... this will cause a chatter

A.O.D. noise

I get no car shake or vibration . I bought the tranny & 2000 stall conv. from Phoenix Transmissions of Weatherford Tex.as a H.D. package 2-yrs. ago . The conv. is furnace brazed & uses bearings not bushings . I don,t know about the shaft & how it drives 3rd . It is a lock-up style . It is not a buzz sound. I contacted Phoenix & they say press. readings are o.k. & suggest I shorten tv cable to boost press. but i've done this before & it makes it s hift way too soon.
