Ford C-4 w/ reverse valve body

Whats the deal with a reverse valve body? Is there some advantage over a regular shift transmission? I have a Ford I bought with a reverse valve body tranny and don't really know anything about them. Can someone enlighten me?

The reverse shift pattern allows a shorter fluid path through the valvebody for a more solid shift. The other benefit is you are shifting away from the neutral and reverse gates, so there is no chance to get into neutral or reverse by accident at high speed

I kinda figured that about the shifter. I have a TCI Thunderstick...(1/4 stick) which is impossible to go from neutral to reverse unless you hit the lockout. I couldnt figure out why my shifter wouldnt work on this transmission until I figured out it had a reverse valve body. So not knowing the reason for it...I asked. Thanks for the info!!

Are you aware you can buy different gate plates for this shifter to convert it to reverse pattern or 2-speed, 4-speed OD, etc use??

The old shifter was a reverse pattern so I took the gate off of it and put it on my shifter which is new. Works like a charm!!
