Ford Diesel Engine Advice Needed

A friend of mine has a 1993 4x4 F350 pickup with a turbo 7.3 Liter engine with manual transmission. The 7.3 Liter developed a cracked block and is beyond repair (at a reasonable cost).

This is a work truck and he needs to get it back running quickly. He found a good deal on a recently rebuilt 6.9 Liter non-turbo and was told that it will bolt right in, and that the only modifications needed are to switch the intake w/turbo and harness for the glow plugs.

Since the 6.9 Liter is a non-turbo, it will have about 2 points higher compression.

Can a Ford 6.9 Liter diesel engine bolt in place of a 7.3 Liter?
If so, will the higher compression be a problem using the turbo, being it is a diesel?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ed

big swap

Both ford motors are International Harvester. Check with one of thier older mechanics tey will know one is a 345 block and the other I think is a 504 block. I don't know if it wll swap right in and check your fron end wheight it could realy mess you up.
