It's possible. You will have to change the motor mounts (iirc they are oddball on the 2.5L contour) and may have to change the flywheel or flexplate to match the tranny you choose, but that is most of the difference. The RWD and FWD duratecs are virtually identical except for component that are unique for either calibration or vehicle packaging, neither of which are a major concern for you.

Depending on what you put it in, you may want to change the oil pan. Also iirc the water pump drive is different on the fwd and rwd applications, you may want to go to an electric water pump to make that issue go away, or else pick up the accesory drive parts and pump from a rwd duratec.

I don't have any of the hardware in front of me anymore and am working from memory, but I think this would be a relatively simple thing to do. And it's a light engine, it would be nice in a light vehicle like a track T or a smaller coupe or roadster.

Not any auto -- i'd have to check but I think the R55 tranny fits it. Some of the baby Jags ran the Duratec as well. one is fwd the other rwd.... and we sold some duratecs to Mazda, I forget which vehicle they put that in.....
