ford engine

i want to build a 79 1-ton mud truck. i would like to have an engine that has alot of torque, possibly the old FE engine, being from 360-428. i would like to use a 4-speed manual, and using a NP transfer case with gears, not a chain. how do i know how much lift to use for my tires? help me

You might find the 429/460 engines are more available. Great torque monsters too. I have seen a couple of "crate" 460 combos available.

As ford build a few 1 ton 4x4 trucks in the late 70's and early 80's you might just be able to find one already running as a starting point. That or find a recycler with engine tranny and transfer case all in one pile.

Go to local car shows and swap meets. You would be supprised at what show up there for sale.

C-6 auto with the transfer case from an F250/350 transfer cases usually don't give too much trouble..

Call these guys for your cam gear..

Start with a seasoned 460 block and stroke to I believe it is a 572 when done,,

Check with the guys at the cam shop for heads as they run Big Block Fords..or ford performance..

get down to the mud bogs and decide on the tire size you want to run and then you can figure out how much lift that is needed..and find out what is allowed for modifications for the class you run in before you go buy parts and pieces..

These guys for body parts You will need to get all the weight off that you can..

Around here Strap your hat on real tight as the boggers around here are Serious and a lot of them used to run altereds or super comp or some other serious racing before they went mud bogging..

Sam
