Ford fast shift from reverse to low

What goes on inside a Ford transmission that keeps them from going into gear until you're at idle/a complete stop? Is this is some kind safety feature to protect the transmission? Something in the valve body I can just bypass? That's fine for a street car, but I do demo derbies and would like to shift quickly from reverse to low (sometimes I don't have time to come to a complete stop to shift plus the transmission only has to last like 10 minutes lol). I use alot of late 80's cars with aod, but any year Ford I've ever driven has done this...

Thanks in advance for your input!!

AOD info

Click on www.clickclickracing.com and join up,this is an all Ford transmission site this was just discussed yesterday by Silverfox the moderator of the site,it turns out that the AOD valve body from a Crown Vic police car will allow you to do what you are looking for.
