Ford flathead acrilic rear main seal
I have never seen anyone advertising such a part. I have a strong feeling against using rope seals on any engine. And I have converted a bunch of early V8-60 to acrilic rear and front engine seals. But never did anything on the bigger 8BA, the ones from 49-53. Since someone asked me to assemble one, and I was in the machine shop checking things out, came to measure the regular 2 piece rear seals from the sbc. It does fit tight in the rope channel and the crank place where the seal rides is just around 060" thicker than the chevy one. So I'm turning down the crank to the same chevy diameter and feel it is done.
Now is there anything wrong with it, it looks so pretty simple I cannot believe no one has ever realized it before. Got tons of how to rebuild how to hot rod books and no one has ever mentioned that. So what gives?
