Ford Flathead timing

I am looking for a site or information on setting the points and timing on a pre-48 Ford flathead V-8 ear-muff type distributor. I have been searching the net for this info with pictures but cannot find anything useful, only how to bake a cake! On some other site they said I do not need a timing fixture and that it is not available anymore but I would like to get one anyway! Does anybody know where I can get one? I am one of those guys that needs every tool known to man and even a few that arnt.
