Ford guys 351 Distributor ?

In looking at the aftermarket distributors for a 351W I see some that fit through 80 some that fit 85-97 and some that don't list any year at all, what gives? Other than the gear material what other differences are there? I'm looking for a ready to run unit for a 84 engine. Are there any blue oval guys out there that know the score? Thanks in advance Richie Z

The only difference I know of is if the cam is a roller or non roller ,which has to do with the distributor gear. hope that helps.

There was also 3 different non-compatable ignition systems during those years. Also the W has a unique distributor.

Gear compatability is definitely a factor. Hence some are sold without the gear because there might be a mix/match situation with cams, etc. Builders might prefer a special aftermarket gear material.

Yes, that applies to the Chebbies too.
