Ford guys how much horsepower will 8.8 take?

How much horsepower will a ford 8.8 rearend take ? I want to put it in a Scamp 3200-3600lb car with a 440 up to 500hp street car 99% of time.I see that they use them in the Mustangs and run 10s and 11s I will probably use the bearing brace and mybe up grade the axles.I have 8 3/4 stuff but it all has to be rebuilt with new axles and a suregrip put in it .You can get one of these out of a explorer with a posi 355,373,410 gears for around $500 and it has disc brakes .And if it blows up it's easy to find another one I will sell the 8 3/4 stuff to off set the price .I appreciate any input you can give me thanks!

I'm not sure I agree 100% ...

The 9" has a pinion support brg, whereas the 8.8 does not.
I'm sure there's a reason why the 9" is the most popular diff.

Just my opinion.

Many Mustangs use the 8.8 and push 700HP or better using 31spline axles. I have this setup in my Ranger and will be pushing 400HP or so to the rear wheels after my supercharger goes in this winter. That rearend is the least of my worries!

I know, I saw what I wrote after I submitted the reply, noticed I wrote that it was compareable to the 9", really ment it was almost as good as the 9", but it was close enough to what I wanted to say. the reason the 9" is so popular is because it is strong, and it uses a removable pumpkin so changing gears isn't as hard or time consuming as say, a Chevy 10 bolt.
