Ford Inline 6 300 ( most miles ? )

Yesterday i read a post about a custom head for the ford inline 6 300. The 300 engine in my truck has 317,000 miles on it with no proof of slowing down. It maintains 36 psi oil pressure at idle and does not blow any smoke at startup or driving. I changed my thoughts about this great little power plant, i thought about when this motor needs to be rebuilt , i would either scrap it and put in a 351 or something. After years of driving this truck , i love this little work horse of an engine. 65 miles per hour on the highway is about the most i Want it to get up to , and it takes a country mile to get up to that speed, 4 speed low gears, but it has plenty torgue and it is so reliable. I mostly use it around the house, to pull trees or bushes out for my neighbors, true 4 wd drive,or an occasional run to menards. Im just waiting for this engine to need rebuilt so i can install a different cam and add dual exhaust. About 2 years ago I picked up a 2 piece exhaust manifold from a later 300 efi i was going to use for dual exhaust, with that being said, im just waiting now for the exhuast to rust out. Basic maintenance is all i ever done to this truck. Im curious to know ,what is the most miles you guys ( or gals ) trying to be politically correct, have put on your engines? Or what is in your opinion the best , most reliable engine ever made? I think you know where my vote goes.

well taken care of 300's have been known to exceed 500,000 miles.

I had a 2.9 V6 in a '92 Ford Ranger that I sold with 202,000 miles on it. had a lifter tick, but ran like a top..

just an FYI tho, your truck has a 5 digit odo ( not including tenths ) which means unless your trucks odometer has rolled over ( appears to have ) it has 31,721 miles on it. if it has rolled over, it would be 131,721.. 231,721 ect... once they have hit 'mechanical limits' you cannot accuratly count milage unless you know how many times it rolled over

can tell it's rolled over because of the numbers not lining up exact.

300-6 is my daily driver, engine of choice. '91 F150 4X4 5-spd., longbed single cab. I paid $1000 for the truck 4 years ago. I think the previous owner ran the motor low on oil, because the crank and rods would rattle on start-up. It would run fine with decent oil pressure once it warmed up though. The odometer said 256,000, so I pulled the motor down, honed the bores, installed new rings on the old pistons, new rod and main bearings on the stock crank, new oil pump, new cam and lifters, new timing gears, had the head overhauled by a friend at his machine shop, had the flywheel surfaced and installed new clutch disc and pressure plate. I figure it should be good for another quarter million.

you have far more restraint than I. If It were mine it'd have some small blowthru turbo on it... Which is why I will always be broke.
