I have been junkyard diving and have found a 65 Galaxie 500 with a ford nine. It has the standard case with the hooded pinion cover. My plan is to put this in my 37 Pontiac. My plans are to cut the control arm mounts off and replace with a triangulated 4 setup. Any one out there see any problems I should be aware of? My engine will be a Olds 455 with aluminum heads and a turbo 400 behind it. Any insight and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The only problem is removing the old brackets and such and welding the new stuff on.
Be very careful NOT to warp the housing. I always try to remove the old stuff with a cut off wheel or plasma cutter ( when I have access to one ) ... I do not own a big plasma one that will cut suspension stuff.
Tack weld the brackets and double check to see that there is no binding when the rear is installed. When finish welding the suspension ... go very slowly and let one weld cool before starting another. Weld 180 degrees from the last weld.
All of this ... after ... you KNOW have the RIGHT width rear ... and can set the pinion angle.
