Ford rack ? Out of what??

My brother bought a 48 Ford Panel. Looks like a Mustang II suspension with after market cross member. The power rack is bad. It is stamped Ford. It is cast iron with the numbers-- SPR-E-
L
78DIOC
Any idea what this is out of? I checked the knowledge base but couldn't find anything.
Thanks,
Jack

It is a FORD rack (P/S) origionally from a 78/79 FAIRMONT. The I.D. SPR-E will get you the correct replacement from a parts vendor.

NOTE: When first introduced, racks were sold as a LONG RACK, i.e. they came with the inner ball sockets to match the intended chassis. Many models may have used the same rack but model fit was limited by inner ball socket length. That is when they decided to market a SHORT RACK whereas the inventory could be reduced and the tech either used the old ball sockets or new ball sockets.

Thanks, you saved us a lot of trouble. I told my brother that you would probably know but I would post the question before emailing you.
Thanks again, Jack
