Ford Ranger starting problem

Friend of mine has a 93? ford ranger, 2.3 4 cylinder/5 speed, 2wd. Recently it began not starting unless jumped. Well I loaned him my battery and it ran for a while, then it started doing it again. He said it does the same thing, except now sometimes it will start if you leave the headlights on for a while? and if you throw a charger to it for a bit. Also, if turned to accesory, the lights on the radio will flash. I haven't looked at the thing yet, but that headlight thing throws me for a loop. Any ideas?? I personally suspect that the alternator is dead, but I dont know yet.

Check your ground cables, and clean both ends up good.....sounds like it's not grounding well enough.

Could be an alternator. It is holding a surface charge and when you turn on the lights it pulls it back down.Take the alternaotr and have it tested, bet it is bad.
