ford rear end

Hi everyone, newbie here. I recently bought a 29 ford roadster, 350/350/8"ford rear. I've been a die hard chevy fan for years but the wife and I deceided we wanted to have a little fun, so here came the roadster. I removed the rims one by one for polishing etc, and discovered the right rear axel seal has been leaking for some time. The guy I bought this rig from only drove it. My question is the how do I determine what year the rear end is without the id tag? And the diagram of a 8" rear end shows a seal just inboard of the inner bearing retainer. What does this look like? I see only metal after pulling the axle and nothing I would consider a seal like I'm used to seeing! Any help or advice is really needed!

Welcome to the site. It's been awhile since I messed with a Ford but I always thought the seal was on top of the bearing (outboard side) You may want to ask this question in the Trans / Rearend forum for a quicker answer.
