Ford 's V10
Hi I know this is not a hot rod question, but I do tow my hotrod with a 06Ford F150 with a V10. Any problems with these motors?
Did hear of a spark plug problem. They blow out of the head? As always thanks so much. |

re: Ford 's V10
I am not aware of any issues with those engines..I do think they are an aluminum head though and I have seen some that have over tightened the plugs in the aluinum heads and strip the threads and then the plugs blow out..It is not a Ford specific issue but an aluminum head issue and guys that do not care to know their own strength..
My take on this one.. Sam

re: Ford 's V10
Have seen the plug blowout last week on an excursion V10. Could have been an over tightening issue...don't know, but the main mechanic tightens stuff like a gorilla and he had just done a tune up on that vehicle.

re: Ford 's V10
I worked for Ford as a partsman for a short time recently, and I'm no longer there.
Ford wants to fix the problem with a whole new head, which is hellishly expensive after the truck is off warranty. We tried an insert made by Wurth ... still expensive but not nearly as much. It did the job and is still OK as far as I know. Wurth "Time-Sert Spark plug inserts" If you can find a shop that has already purchased the install kit, and all you have to pay for is the insert itself and the labor to install it ... you may get off relatively cheap. Obviously it is a widespread problem ... one that may be addressed by the aftermarket ... rather than the manufacturer. It bothers me, too, when mfr's act like "That's the first time I've heard of that!" when it obviously isn't. It's no wonder our domestic car market is floundering. |

re: Ford 's V10
4.6, 5.4 and the V10 are all Ford Modular engines, the spark plugs on the older 5.4 and V10's, the spark plug threads are not deep enough and can blow out eventully, the newer engines are safer.
