Ford Straight 6 swap to a 302 or 351

I have a 95 Ford f150 with the 300 6 cylinder. I hate this damn engine. I have had so many problems with it. It is the origional engine that came in the truck from the factory in 95'. I have so far spent about $3000.00 on this engine since 95'. It is down again and I am not going to spend another dime on it. How hard would it be to swap it with a V-8 302 or a 351. Which would be easier. I don't have a preference. I am not sure of the tranny in this truck. It is the origional automatic push button overdrive that came in almost all f150's for that year model. Would this bolt up to the V-8? I need to get this done fairly quick because this is my everyday driver.

Different bolt pattern on the trans. Don't forget that that is an EFI computer controlled engine, and AOD4E trans. you will need to swap the electronics too.

Aside from that, trouble with the 300-6?????? That is absolutely amazing! That was the best factory truck engine ever! Stump-pulling torque, smooth as silk and reasonably economical. I've been a Ford Truck guy since the 60's and have NEVER heard of a problem 300. Any that I've owned went over 150,000 miles without trouble, minimum.(I have heard of electrical or electronic troubles on a few of the later 87-95 ones, but that is it)

I had one in a '76 F150. Valves & rings went at 70K. Did the 351 swap, changed to C4auto and rad as well from a '79 LTD II. Easy swap then. Like a fool I bought a new improved 300six in 1981. It was so gutless and hard on fuel, I traded it on a Suburban. A 5.0 will be a major improvement. I have a '94 F150 w/5.0 auto. It,s not bad but the tranny went @ 100K.
Good luck

Actually, the bolt pattern between all the big Ford sixes (240,250,300) are the same as the smallblock V8, you shouldn't have to change the tranny. Motor mounts and engine hook ups should do it( the radiator may even work, I don't remember where the outlets are).

Well guys, the problem(s) that I have with that 300 6 is that everytime I get it running something new happens. I have already had this engine rebuilt by someone other than me. I have another ford with the 300 6 that is a pure work truck and the motor is fine other than the bad mpg. I have the freeze plugs that pop out about every 8 months. I can't keep water in the thing. I can't keep the head gasket from blowing. I am just to the point that I am sick of pouring money into that POS motor. I am just wanted to go with a simple V8 nothing to hard. The body etc. is too nice on this truck to trade it or let it go for a couple of thousand. PLUS it is paid for!!!! So any straight forward advice would be great!!!
