Ford tailshaft questions 4R70W vs. AOD

I'm in the middle of a 5.0 4Rw70 swap into an 1980 Volvo Bertone.
The space in the trans (driveshaft) tunnel seems to be very limited.
Since the yoke on the 4RW70 is rather big and 1.6 in diameter.
I'm thinking maybe swapping an AOD tailshaft so I can use the smaller yoke.
which is 1.5 in diameter.
The joint retainer width is 3.875 (the too big part) on the Explorer yoke.2-3-14061X

So........Is this a good option? Is there tailshafts from many models I could use or 5.0 specific AOD only?
Other ideas?

Hoping a trans expert can chime in.
Thanks!

there is only 5/16 inch difference in the two yokes as far as width is concernd. the aod/aode/c-4 yoke is 3 1/4 and the 4r70w is 3 11/16. Not much difference.can you drop the trans tailhousing 1/4 inch on the crossmember? Can you mod the tunnel to fit the larger width?
