Ford/Thompson Pump & Buick R&P

I am mating up a 95 Buick R&P to a 68 Ford/Thompson power steering pump in a 60 Ranchero. Now that I am preparing for the hoses I came up with the question of what fluid do I use? Any experience or suggestions welcome. Thanks, Jay

Power steering systems are simple hydraulic pumps/motor combos so nothing sophisticated is necessary. Virtually any pump will work with any steering gear. Only modification needed is to match the pump output pressure with the gear so it isn't too easy or hard to steer. Thus they all use the same fluid. You can get steering gear hydraulic fluid at the parts store or you can use plain old automatic tranny fluid. I do the latter 'cause I usually have a bottle or two lying around.
