can anyone point me in the right direction to find a site to I.D. a ford 4 speed or maybe a 3 speed overdrive.a buddy of mine bought it a couple of yrs ago to put in an 82' 302 capri but ended up not having to use it.it is a top loader and has 4 positions to set the shifter on a rail.

is there a page i can go to for this info.i don't see the zr-1173 anywhere on this tranny.it has a metal tag riveted to it but the rust has taken its toll over the yrs.there is a number thats on it several times.i assume it's the vin#.the guy my buddy bought this tranny from advertised it as a 4 speed and i think he had been using it in a stock car.this trans was not from a capri or mustang that i know,it was just going to be used in one and then wasn't.so if there are any info site someone can point me to.oh yea,i did take it to a tranny shop but the guy wasn't sure which one it was.thank you for trying.

That metal tag has the Assembly I.D. No. on it. Can you clean with steel wool?

Two versions were available. Starting in 1974, it was a cast iron case with external shift rods. It later went to an aluminum housing with internal rails (SROD).

no,the tag has had it.i used a rotary wire brush on a drill and the tag cleaned up nicely.you just can't read the #'s.it is 82 or after.the tranny guy i had look at it saw some kind of a weird shaped bolt head that you use a star driver to take off with and said they started using them around 82 or 84.i have the bell housing and cable to go with it and its hyd. and i know the tranny is the srod type.i just want to find out what i have so i can figure out what to do with it.maybe i can take the tag off and put something on it like acid to help bring out the #'s.
