ford wiring harness

i'm having diffilculties with my wiring harness on my 64 1/2 mustang. the guy that owned it before me ruined it by cutting off a lot of it and splicing in all kinds of different crap.
i've been searching for a used harness and can't find one for under $400 when i can buy one new for that.
does anyone know of a good (cheap) place to shop at, or a site to check out?

thanks Aaron

p.s. it the underdash harness and i can't get the damn lights to work right. the head lights will not switch from low to high and i've gone over the harness with the proper wiring diagrams at least 5 times and can't figure it out.
one more thing, do you know if there is another car thats harness will work? that maybe i can just make a couple of changes to?

thanks again

Unhappy re: ford wiring harness

You may as well bite the bullet and buy a quality repro harness. The 64 1/2 is unique in that it used a generator.

No use in taking the chance on an electrical fire.

re: ford wiring harness

What would be the difference in the wireing between a generator charging system and an Alt chargeing system? they both have got to be regulated at around 14VDC when running right? im not trying to be,well,a trouble maker,im just curious.
Amps??

Why are you a trouble maker? Good question.

I would imagine the harness from an early 1964 FALCON (Gen) could be made to suffice. The difference between an alternator or generator harness would be the charging system harness mainly. You would have to rewire an Alt harness into the engine harness for this application.

It would be so much easier (and cheaper) in the long run to buy a dedicated MUSTANG repro harness (in my opinion).
