Ford's 'better idea' is finally coming.

I found this little tidbit...

Good stuff. Can't wait for a similar system for our musclecars to hit the aftermarket (it would require new cylinder heads and some plumbing work I know, but it's still cool)

Yep, It's still an idea. They'll dumb it up somehow.

I liked the article, however.

If you want an efficient vehicle, shave about a TON of crrrrappp from it and tell the perspective owner to go on a diet.

Hey- pimpin' ain't easy.

I think I'll hold out for one of those air-powered cars. Seems to be a readily available supply of hot air lately....

(I'm taking a jab or two at SB, Eaton Compressor, and the politics of election year for those who miss the joke....)

In a while, Chet.

i like this guy (notice the engineer tag)

"@the_engineer: it rises to the challenge...

The real question is how quickly this can be changed from ethanol to nitrous injection. "

wonder if anybody told him yet that ethanol is fuel, nitrous oxide isn't.

Since diesels have high compression & hot cylinder temps Nitrous Oxide injection is usually bad news for the engine. Add in the fact that diesel fuel has more BTU's than gas to and you get meltdown fast. That's why there are not many nitrous assisted trucks out there.

Alcohol injection is a win-win for any boosted engine as it cools the air fuel charge and increases octane at the same time. It can be any fuel alcohol Ford just happens to mention Ethanol because you can pull up to many pumps across the country now and fill up with E85. You could Methanol if you wanted

They could start making ethanol out of (organic) garbage- paper, food waste, crap like that. But I guess the like making it out of corn and consequently making us put money that would otherwise go to the 'project car fund' or it's fuel tank into the grocery bill. Gotta love 'the system'.

Heard stuff like it before, if this makes it to the market I will be very surprized. However I will say that it is a step in the right direction. Not knowing how Ford will take it, I am not going to make any calls on it...yet.
