Here is the word for preventing shaft wear on any carb. Set up properly, shafts should never wear out. set up improperly (done more often than not) shafts will wear out very fast. Just envision the forces on the shaft with each spring orientation. You want the spring force to be directed somewhere else, not at the shaft.
