Found under vavle cover

Pulled my valve covers to set the valves and found this laying next to a valve spring. Been about 2000 miles since I set the valves (solids) so it was time. Looks big enough to at least block an oil passage. Any ideas what it is and where it might have come from? It's not a ball shape, it' kind of tapered on each end. Hope the pic shows it well enough.

Pushrod tip!!

X2, never seen that before!! What brand are they...?

What engine is this from? I would tend to go along with a push rod tip, but have never seen one broken "that far" up. Is it "hollow with a lube hole? How's the engine running? You've definitely got some interest in what it might be. Could it be the result of being vandalized? Butch/junior stocker.

PCV check ball

lmsport 03-27-2013 03:39 PM

I have thousands of those in my parts cleaning tumbler machine.

Hey neighbor, I'm another one that want to know if there's an oil hole in it. Perhaps a view from the bottom would help.

Fang16 03-27-2013 09:10 PM

Nope, no hole in it. All the push rods are ok. Could be from the PCV valve but it's ok and on the other valve cover so I'm thinking sabotage as suggested. Although I rarely have the front end open in public. Once at a car show last year and once at the strip.

X2 with Imsport. Sure looks like media for a tumbler. Is it stainless?

Fang16 03-28-2013 07:11 AM

Not sure? It's not that shiny, lol. It's very magnetic where stainless isn't that magnetic.

I would give it a 95% chance its tumbling media. Tho not exactly the same this it comes in hundreds of versions.

Fine example of why regular check-ups keep you on your feet, or in this case firing on all 8. good catch.
