Four Link for Step Down?

I am trying to decide on what rear suspension to use on my 1950 Hudson Pacemaker Club Coupe. I want to go as low as possible, so I'm tending towards airbags. I'm also thinking about a 4-link, but looking under the rear frame (its a unibody), I'm not sure if I'll have enough travel before it hits the bumpstops. I don't really want to back-half the frame, as I would have to be messing with the floor pans, wheel tubs, etc.

I don't think I could get low enough with lowering blocks, and if they get too tall I worry about the safety factor. This will be a daily and long distance driver.

I guess you could mount airbags to the leaf springs, but can you get that low with that set-up? Do you need to remove one or two leafs to go this route?

Has anyone ever done a custom rear suspension on a unibody? Especially an older car?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Jay

Removing several leafsprings is the easiest way and air ride technologies has kits to do that. If spring wrap becomes an issue you could put an under ride strut on it to help. Most guys just take out the leafs and go.
Hope this helps, mikey
