frame for 1950 f1 ford truck what is the best one to use

we want to use some ford frame that will work easy, but everybody tells us to use chevy s10 would like to keep it ford if we can if anyone has any good suggestions we would like to know the easiest way to go

why change ?

Why do you want to change frames. and what do you want to build. Ground hugger with new suspension Power steering bigger brakes? Jacked up 4 X 4 ? Is your frame cancer rusted or bent from hitting a tree?

On my 51, I used the stock frame and used a Nova clip.....That is not considered the way to do it these days, but thats what I did 18 years ago....It still works fine.

frame swap

i wanted 4 wheel drive on mine I used the whole frame and drive train out of a 91 4 door explorer. I just shortened the bed.

Frame swap

Frame swap questions come up frequently. On a older vehicle or street rod / hot rod it is almost always better, more cost effective and less work to use the original frame. There is a lot of work to modifying a frame to fit a another type of vehicle and get it to fit right and work correctly. Most turn into hack jobs that don't look right or function correctly. There are a lot of issues, steering placement, engine placement, correct wheelbase, body mounting, etc. In most cases it is way more work to swap frames than to use the original and just update to modern suspension and axles.

1950 ford f1 with a 1987 monte carlo frknt clip

On my 1950 f1 i have a 1987 monte carlo ss front clip. It has the right track width an a easy fit if your welding skills are up for the task. Have some pictures in my journel.

This comes up on the ford-trucks forum all the time. General opinion is to keep the stock frame as it already fits. There are plenty of front and rear suspension options available in the aftermarket along with several junkyard options. My F1 has a Tci leaf spring kit in the rear with an explorer axle. Lowered the rear four inches. The front is a Jag Xj6 subframe, bolted in. Cheap and easy, lowered the front four inches also and you can adjust the ride height. All this on a boxed, stock frame.

i prefer the camaro clip to any and all set ups. except a dropped axle. with the clip done right they drive like gocarts. love them. you can fine tune the alignment by swapping shims back and forth. strong , reliable and easy to maintain .

See my site richlin2, I have a 48 installed heidts ifs and explorer rear. Kept rear springs, just removed 4 leafs. I haven't ridden it yet but it looks good.

I have read that the later years that NO NOT have the twin I beam works best. I have seen a Ford aerostar mini van front crosmember swapped into one. It sems like they had to custom make the upper shock mounts.
