Frame looks crooked
Okay last night I was standing in my shop looking at my truck and it looked odd so I put a level on the front of the frame and showed level then I put a level in the back and it showed not level. I then took a tape measure and measured off the floor to the bottom of the frame in the back and it was 1/4" short on the passenger side. It has all new bushings in the suspension and the cab (stripped) is all that is on it right now with the engine and trans etc.
Does this mean that the frame is racked? :confused: I thought I might lift it up on the low side with a hoist and see if it would settle down over time and get some of it out. Comments please.
:pimp: It could be your suspension, You might want to find a level area like your garage floor and put jack stands raised equally under the 4 corners and see if they all settle evenly. You might also take a plumb bob and make a spot on the floor at each corner then take a measurement from corner to corner (in an X) to see if the frame is out of square. If you have any discrepancy the best thing is to let a good quality frame shop push and pull it back to straight. If it's your suspension start shimming and replacing. Or it could level out when you are driving depending how heavy you are.:mwink:
It could be a little fatigue in the rear leaf spring on the drivers side. Swap your rear leaf springs from side to side and see what happens.
Henry is right, swap leafs.
It is really hard to tell if a frame is tweaked when there is a bunch of weight on it.
If I am looking to see if a frame is tweaked I put the front of the frame on 2 jackstands, and the rear on 1 in the exact center. That way the weight of the frame is not influencing the way it settles on the jackstands. Then put a level on it. I usually don't worry too much about anything less than 1/2" out on a truck frame when it is bare. Those f100 frames twist and rack a bunch when you are driving anyway.
If you want to see if it is diamond shaped, do the plumb bob thing as suggested ,or just measure from corner to corner.
I have yet to see one that is within 1/4"
Make it so it sits level when the suspension is loaded, and drive it.
If it is way out then it's the frame shop.
I will try some of all that, of course this morning I went out there to do some wiring and I put a level on it just for giggles and it shows level in front back and middle.
I will keep an eye on it from time to time
