I'm not familiar with getting a frame acid dipped. My car is a 79 Camaro z28 which isn't a full frame but how long do you think that would take to have done? A day? Any ideas of how much it costs? Does anything need to be done right after it's cleaned or can i just drive 4 hours back home and then paint it? I'm going to be going to Reno alot soon and was thinking i'll just have this procedure done on the frame while i'm at the doctor, if i have to stay till the next day to pick it up that's fine. Also i've been grinding the frame to clean it up but haven't finished everything, it's probably a waste of time to finish grinding and wasting wire wheels if i get this done correct? I've also thought of media blasting but would think dipping the entire frame in a tank would be the better way to go. Anyways, thanks for any input!

I was quoted over a thousand bucks to dip the whole thing body and frame (51 Chevy truck torn down in parts). The trouble with acid dip is the residue left after the procedure. If you or they don't rinse it all off your paint will have trouble sticking wherever the residue is left.

Well i'd have to rely on them to rinse it completely or find a car wash in Reno but wouldn't a grinder take that residue off pretty easily? I was using wire wheels and switched to rapid strip wheels which took it down to bare metal including all the grease that the wire wheel didn't remove. I wouldn't mind going over the frame after acid dipping, i'd be happy just knowing the inside of my frame was clean. Thanks, it doesn't seem so expensive so i think i'm going to go that route for my frame.

That residue would be in places you could not grind off

The most economical way to deal with subframes in this area is to have them powdercoated, we have a powdercoater that beadblasts and powdercoats them for $100 in satin black and they look awesome. Full frames are running $200. A person can't do a quality paint on these parts for that price.
You can go to extremes with this stuff, Example: The next project I have scheduled is a 68 Camaro Z28 restoration and the subframe was bumped, sandblasted, then dipped and E-coated, then scuffed and epoxy primed, sanded and will then be painted in singlestage urethane. The owner is trying to achieve the best results possible. After the inside is treated with cavity wax it should last till the end of time.

That is a steal Buddy! All the grinding and brushing most guys go through isn't worth $200. That is the way to go.

I would recomend removing it by electrolisis.
This is similer to crome plating but you are removig rust rather than aplying chromium.
