Frame Renforcement with a lift kit

I have a 79 Camaro, which my husband and I put a shackle kit on to give it a 4 inch or so lift, also we went to a 5 leaf spring, the original was 4 leafs. I like the look of the 50's on the rear of the car with the lift, but I am worried about needing some reinforcements to the frame. I remember that my Dad's had to scrap his '73 Camaro, as it split at the roof to the back of the doors (where the leading is) where the back top corner of the window comes, because there wasn't no reinforcements to the frame for the amount of torque there was. I'm hopping to avoid this problem, and would like to know what I can do so this does not happen to my Camaro. Would the shocks play any part in this, currently we have air shocks, but I'm not certain that I want to keep them we had a problems with air loss.
