Free Speech Parts Auction Details

This Free Speech Parts Auction forum was created to support the legal fund to defend against the frivolous lawsuit filed by Streetbeasts in an attempt to silence us after we wrote a wiki article exposing their company. Thanks to cboy and xxllmm4 for being the first to suggest this.

In the past, we've provided free American hosting to an Australian hotrodding site whose free speech was in danger, been backed by a leading free speech organization when we exposed corporate wrongdoing, and stood up to a company who threatened a lawsuit if we didn't reveal the identity of a forum member who had posted about their products.

Now, we're looking to establish a long-term fund that can be used to protect the free speech rights of Hotrodders.com, its members, and the members and leaders of other automotive forums around the web. If you'd like to auction off a part, and donate at least 50% of the winning bid to the Free Speech Fund, please list it here, and we'll promote it in various spots on Hotrodders.com. You can post a link to an auction on eBay or another auction/sales site, or you can conduct your auction in this forum (details below).

All proceeds from parts auctions will go to support the Free Speech Fund -- thanks for being a "part" of it .

Parts Auction Details:

1. Start a new thread in this forum, with a description and photos of the part you're putting up for auction, or a link to your auction on eBay or another site. State what percentage of the winning bid you'd like to donate to the Free Speech Fund (minimum 50%). The auctions will be publicized by Hotrodders.com on various pages throughout the website.

2. People can bid on your part by posting in the thread you started, or by following the link to your eBay auction, and bidding on it there.

3. Auctions held in this forum (ie: non-eBay auctions) will stop after 2 weeks, at which point the auction thread will be closed. The winning bidder can pay the winning bid by PayPal'ing it to freespeech@hotrodders.com, or by sending a check/money order to:

Hotrodders.com
PO Box 20445
Boulder, CO 80308

Upon receipt of the winning bid amount, Hotrodders.com will notify the auction-holder, who then contacts the winning bidder to arrange for shipping costs, which are paid by the winning bidder. Please keep in mind that bidding on an item obligates you to pay for it if you're the high bidder.

If you prefer, you can also lend a hand by making a donation, researching Streetbeasts, or simply by letting people know what's happening.
