I,m about to start up my stroked 409 for the first time. Its got a roller cam and valve train and I was wondering if I have to break in the roller cam the same as a flat tappet cam. Doe I need to keep the RPM up around 2500 to break in the cam?

no, but I would keep the rpm above 1700 for a few minutes while adjustments are being made. Slow the engine down as the tune settings are found.Hope you spent a few dollars on th e valve train,,,,

yes,please,let us know how she runs. Did you use 2 WCFBs? The sound of the 409 is cool too. keep the RPM moderate though.

The engine was built at Howard Race Engines in Barrie, and is a 30 over 409 block, balanced etc., Scat 4" crank, and H beam rods, Ross 11.5/1 pistons, Comp Hydraulic Roller Cam 511/521 with 4/7 swap, 817 heads redone and ports cleaned up, 3 angle valve job, comp cam springs, Harland Sharp roller rockers. I used the 817 heads rather than Eddys so i could keep the old school look of 6 Holley 94s.
I had a little set back and had to order a new fuel reg today. The original would only go down to 4 psi and I need to regulate fuel pressure at 1 1/2 to 2psi max or it will overpressure the carb needle. Just a couple days till I get the right one!!

is that a 474? I hope the carbs can breathe enough?Good thing you got all new valve train components. I still would limit RPM to 5500

My 409 stroker has seen 8000+ rpm. 474 ci and lots of nasty. Rpm is no problem with quality parts and assembly.

Everything was done at home except the fantastic paint job. Black Pearl that shows Blue under the sun was done by Rick at 1st Class in Orillia.

I guess that didn't answer your question. The roof is chopped 4" and a Volvo station wagon donated its roof for the fill-in. Its channeled 4 1/2" and the rear wheelwells are raised 2"" and tubbed 5". The firewall is reversed, doors are suicided and flush fit.
