Does anyone have a fool proof way to absolutely clean a block without ruining 500 bucks worth of machine work. on the deck and cylinders.??

In the little bit of time while you are cleaning the engine you won't get anymore rust than will wipe off with a little WD40 and a soft rag . Just don't trust the WD40 to protect for storage . Wipe it down with motor oil or preferably STP after you are done cleaning and drying with the WD40. It will be fine . BTW . blow the water out of the oil galleys !
