Freshening up 1993 Camaro LT1 -- Swap in LT4?
Hi guys!
I want to freshen up my LT1 engine -- it is out of a 93 camaro z28. The engine has around 90k miles on it. I don't want to risk a similar fate that my Impala SS LT1 met with a rod knocking after a spun bearing.
Firstly, what gains could I expect if (while freshening) I swap out the stock 93 camshaft for an LT4 hotcam & LT4 springs? I don't have the LT4 intake or heads -- i'd remain functionally stock for those two parts.
Secondly, does anyone out there have any recommendation for a good master kit... I spoke with Olnolan, and he recommended the summit kit which costs about 500 bucks.
Also, should I expect to take the whole thing to the machine shop? Even a basic cleaning runs around 250 bucks, add an overbore & crank grind and it gets up to around 600. Granted it's still only 1100 for a rebuild, but still -- just wondering what other people's experiences are in rebuilding for freshening purposes as opposed to necessity (rod knocking).
Any help would be fantastic!
