Front Panhard Mounting Pros & Cons

I'm trying to decide on a technique for fabricating front panhard mounts for a solid dropped I beam axle with 4-bars and spring-over design.

Part of me says drill a hole for a mounting stud through the web of the axle. But, should I have any concerns at all about weakening the axle at that point?

A second option is to attach the panhard to the batwings in some fashion. But, this would appear to have some potential to place extra bending loads on the 4-bars. Is this something to be highly concerned about, or am I just obsessing?

In principle, it seems like one might be able to make some sort of attachment to the spring perch bolts, but I've not figured out yet how to make that geometry work out successfully.

Before I start drilling and cutting, I'd be interested in any advice or suggestions on ways this has been done successfully.

re: Front Panhard Mounting Pros & Cons

See the LINK . This is a kit that Speedway sells. You could easily fabricate one yourself. One bracket is welded to the bottom of the frame rail (usually on the drivers side). The other bracket bolts to the "Batwings" that the four bars bolt to. The Panhard bar bolts between the two brackets.

re: Front Panhard Mounting Pros & Cons

Thank you for the helpful comments, Frisco. While a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words, in this case it was your explanation that was the most helpful. I'd seen the pic in the Speedway catalog of their setup, but at the resolution that was available, before reading your explanation of what went where, I was having trouble figuring out exactly what I was looking at and where it was supposed to attach!

I have installed the speedway pan hard bar assembly, it comes with everything you need and is easy to install.
