front springs g body

I'm installing Moroso trick drag springs in my 1980 Lemans. They are 17 inches long unloaded and are 11 inches long installed.

I took the springs to a shop where they compress the springs in a vice type of tool. The springs kept bending instead of compressing.

Second choice was to use an inside spring compressor. First the shaft of the spring compressor is too big to go up through my upper shock mount hole. Second the tool was too big to get back out through the lower shock mount hole in the lower control arm.

Third choice was to use an outside strut compression tool. This compressed the spring without bending it and compressed it to the 11 inches needed but is too long to fit between the two control arms.

I know that some shops compress the springs. Then tie them with wire and remove the compressor.

Does anyone know the safe and proper procedure to tie the springs and what size wire to use?

These are 2 inch lowering springs. They are only about 14 inches long.
